Uptown Indigo is nestled in the heart of Uptown Shelby, hidden inside the historic Campbell Building with lighted tree lined streets surrounding the Uptwon. With the highest view in Shelby, with panoramic views of North Carolina mountains. We have created an upscale, chic, modern event space that goes above and beyond. We are close to small towns like Kings Mountain, Forest City, Gastonia, Cherryville, and Tryon, and we're equidistant from Charlotte, Spartanburg, Asheville, and Hickory. Our event space features exquisite style, dedicated service, and a picturesque location we think you will love.

History of Our Venue

R.E. Campbell was an entrepreneur with a colorful career and a huge vision for Shelby. After working in a monazite mine, he built a department store business that culminated into the 1927 construction of the Campbell Building (the first and only department stores in this area. Many Cleveland County locals still recall the Campbell department store. One local woman said, "You'd walk up those stairs to the second floor and take a right, and you'd see the most beautiful Sunday dresses in the world!" This store also sold horse shoes, furniture, even caskets. Design features like the original floors, tin ceilings, and a grand staircase are still in outstanding condition for their age.

The Campbell Building stayed in the same family for many years, later becoming a furniture store for 25 years and then sitting dormant for 12 years. But the building is back. In 2015, our family became the second family to own the Campbell Building. After three years of work, the Campbell Building is now alive with action once more.

Our Story

Uptown Indigo is a partnership with my husband after I begged him to buy this empty, abandoned building. We thought about making apartments/condos because of the big space, BUT once everything was out of the building to start refurbishing we could not section it off when we saw the beauty and potential - so this Event Venue Business took flight. Our venue is on the second and third floors of our dear Historic Building. From the tin ceilings to the handmade tiles in the bathroom to the mirrors by the dance space, we invested three years and lost of hard work (I enjoyed every minute) in the design of Uptown Indigo. We aim to provide an alluring space for events by crafting lifelong memories for every guest through meaningful, powerful service. We promised we would not inflate prices when renting our venue as this is much more than a business to us- we make peoples life better and happier making these happy memories.

Our vision is to become the premier venue for elegant events in the North Carolina foothills. We've set the foundation for this vision by creating an event venue that features high-quality amenities, client-first service, and a commitment to sophisticated design. We believe these values hearken back to the sense of hope and pride that surrounded the Campbell Building back in 1927.
